Alice Dellal was born in Brazil in 1987 to mother Andrea Dellal and father Guy Dellal — Andrea was a successful Brazilian model and Guy was the son of property magnate, Jack Dellal. Alice Dellal’s upbringing was extravagant but also difficult. Her father was a bodyguard for Mick Jagger’s girlfriend, Jerry Hall, but he was also caught up in a drug-smuggling scandal. In addition to that, one of Alice Dellal’s aunts died of a drug overdose.
Despite these family difficulties, Alice Dellal put her family’s past aside and gained an interest in photography. Before long, she thought she could try being in pictures instead of just taking them and, in an ode to Jerry Hall’s own style, Alice Dellal dyed her hair blonde and shaved one side of it off. She completed her punk look by adding a nose ring for good measure. Now, Alice Dellal was determined to see if she could enjoy some of Jerry Hall’s earlier success in the modeling industry.
At only 18, Alice Dellal was excited about her career aspirations and eager to get started. One of her earliest gigs was in 2006 for photographer Will Whipple, who photographed Alice Dellal in what he called a “contrast shoot,” an alluring mix of color shades and risqué outfits that Alice Dellal wore well. Between Will Whipple’s shoot and her signing with Select Model Management, Alice Dellal was already a few steps closer to making it as a model.
2006 would also mark Alice Dellal’s biggest early breaks in print. Burberry, known for its line of male and female accessories, signed Alice Dellal as a model for its Autumn 2006 campaign. Following this successful association, Alice Dellal promptly joined Pussy Glamore to pose front and center for its racy lingerie line. This choice would serve Alice Dellal well, as it would open the doors for bigger and bolder opportunities in underwear modeling.
Alice Dellal continued to leap forward in her pursuit of greater modeling success. She got her first taste of runway modeling by appearing at the Fashion East show for House of Holland. She also posed for Dazed & Confused, which led to a film appearance in a behind-the-scenes fashion exposé by one of their photographers. In one of her most acclaimed 2007 spots, Alice Dellal was made up to resemble Jerry Hall in a well-received photo shoot for Vogue Paris.
In 2008, Alice Dellal made headlines again after she allegedly was chosen to replace Kate Moss as the face and body of Agent Provocateur’s ritzy lingerie line. This was a shock to Kate Moss and to the industry itself, especially since Alice Dellal was nearly 15 years younger. Nevertheless, it only served as more proof that Alice Dellal had indeed arrived and is certainly here to stay.
