Alison Carroll was born in 1985 and first joined gymnastics at 7 years old with aspirations of becoming a PE teacher when she grew up. At 12 years old, she started training with the Shirley Gymnastics Club, and she went on to attend Edenham High. It was then that she started as a professional display gymnast.
After high school Alison Carroll became a certified Club Coach in Tumbling, Sports Acrobatics and General Gymnastics. She also started coaching younger gymnasts, and at the British National Championships, she choreographed the winning routine for the junior team.
Alison Carroll continued to participate as a performing gymnast in annual gymnastic display events, taking part in demonstrations at the Edinburgh Festival, Inverness Festival, Liverpool British Championships, Cardiff Festival, London Festival, Birmingham Ministrada, and Portugal World Ministrada (representing Great Britain).
While working as a receptionist at a London-based golf club as well as teaching at Shirley Gymnastics Club, Alison Carroll attended a casting audition for the part of Lara Croft. She competed against hundreds of other girls in front of a panel of judges, showing off her acrobatic and gymnastic moves. She later found out she got the role but wasn’t allowed to tell anyone. The official announcement that Alison Carroll was the new Lara Croft came on August 11, 2008, when she started promoting the game Tomb Raider: Underworld, which will be released in November ‘08. In order to fulfill her duties as a heroine, she immediately began taking a series of courses that included SAS survival, combat and semi-automatic weapon firing courses in Eastern Europe, and a crash course in world archeology. Her promotional work will continue with travels to South Africa, Germany, Dubai, and Singapore.
