avril-lavigne, . Born Avril Ramona Lavigne on September 27, 1984 Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Raised in a strict Christian household, Avril grew up singing in the church choir and playing guitar. She was discovered singing country covers in Kingston, Ontario, and signed with Arista Records soon after, releasing her first album, Let Go, in 2002. A mixture of pop and punk, the record sold 15 million copies worldwide, thanks to the hugely popular single, “Complicated.”

Her second album, Under My Skin, was released in 2004, and she subsequently won two World Music Awards for World’s Best Pop/Rock Artist and World’s Best Selling Canadian Artist. In 2006, Lavigne made news with her personal life, marrying fellow rocker Deryck Whibley from the band Sum 41.

Shedding some of her angst-ridden teen image, Lavigne released her latest album, The Best Damn Thing, in 2007. The album reached the number one spot on the charts, thanks to such songs as “Girlfriend,” “Hot,” and “When You’re Gone.” She also co-wrote all of the tracks on the recording.

In July 2009, Lavigne branched out in a new direction. She launched her first fragrance, which is named Dark Star.
