Deanne Bell Biography (1980-)

Deanne can recite many digits of pi, but her talents don’t stop there! She received her B.S. in mechanical engineering in 2002 from Washington University in St. Louis. Her work experience ranges from designing FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) and LADAR optical navigation systems for the aerospace industry to doing product development for a CAD software startup.

In 2006 Deanne took her first job in television, as a co-host for the Peabody Award winning PBS series, Design Squad. In 2007, Deanne became a host on Discovery Channel’s Smash Lab and in 2009 she signed on as a host for DIY Network’s, Money Hunters.

Deanne’s passion is to bring science into mainstream media. Whether its sports, history, home improvement, or straight-up experiments on TV, she aims to bring science into everyday homes, and everyday conversation.

She defies all stereotypes of what a typical engineer should be and speaks candidly about her journey – without a pocket protector.

When Deanne’s not crunching numbers on TV, she she seeks out global travel and outdoor adventure. She has hiked to the base of Mt. Everest, cycled from Seattle to Los Angeles, and backpacked solo throughout Asia.
