Leonardo DiCaprio In ‘Django Unchained’? Quentin Tarantino, Star In Talks For Film

Already the muse of directing legend Martin Scorsese, it looks like is on pace to become maverick director ’s next featured star.

With Tarantino having completed the script for his next feature, the slave story spaghetti western “,” he’s now looking to put together another one of his usual star-studded casts. He’s already got Christoph Waltz, whom he made into an Oscar-winner with the role Hans Landa in “Inglorious Basterds,” going to the good side this time as a German bounty hunter, meaning he’s got a bad guy role open. Enter DiCaprio.

Deadline reports that the Oscar-nominee is in talks to play Calvin Candie, “a charming but ruthless proprietor of Candyland, a despicable club and plantation in Mississippi where female slaves are exploited as sex objects and males are pitted against each other in ‘mandingo’ style death matches.”

It’d be a juicy role for DiCaprio, and could pit him against Will Smith, who is also in talks for the film as the protagonist freed slave.

DiCaprio is finishing up playing lead in “J. Edgar,” a Clint Eastwood-directed biopic about former FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover. He’s set to star in Baz Luhrmann’s big screen adaptation of “The Great Gatsby,” playing the mysterious Jay Gatsby. He’ll reunite with Scorsese in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” the true story of a fallen Wall Street trader Jordan Belfort.
